HallMark Contributes to 2024 NI AMR Poultry Survey – FSA Report Released

HallMark Supports AMR Surveillance in NI Poultry Retail – Latest FSA Findings Released

We are proud to share that HallMark Veterinary and Compliance Services played a key role in supporting the latest Food Standards Agency (FSA) antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance study, now published on the FSA’s official website.

This important report, covering 600 fresh broiler (chicken) and turkey samples collected across Northern Ireland in 2024, was part of the UK’s mandatory anonymised reporting under EU Regulation 2020/1729, submitted to the EU in May 2025.

Key Findings at a Glance

  • 12% prevalence of ESBL/AmpC E. coli among fresh raw poultry samples—in line with 2022 UK levels, and lower than most EU countries.

  • No resistance was found to last-line antibiotics such as colistin or carbapenems.

  • Risk to the public remains very low when following safe food handling and cooking practices.

Acknowledging the Team Behind the Data

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to:

  • Our dedicated HallMark surveyors, who successfully carried out sample collection across Northern Ireland.

  • The AFBI laboratory team, for their expertise in AMR analysis, data interpretation, and authorship of the report.

  • The FSA for their leadership and ongoing commitment to monitoring and reducing antimicrobial resistance in the food chain.

This project, part of the ongoing FS900189 contract, reflects the power of collaboration between government, science, and veterinary public health.
