FSA and HallMark Conduct Joint Abattoir Visits to Support Official Controls

Following HallMark’s recent success in securing the contract to deliver official controls in the WW3 and E1 regions, representatives from both HallMark and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) carried out joint visits to two abattoirs in Gloucestershire last week.

The visits were attended by Kevin Maher, Head of Animal Welfare, Contracts & SLAs at the FSA and Patrick Steel, Managing Director at HallMark.

The team visited J. Broomhall Ltd in Eastington and Universal Traders Gloucester in Minsterworth. These site visits provided an opportunity to observe Official Veterinarians (OVs) and Meat Hygiene Inspectors (MHIs) in action and to gain firsthand insight into how HallMark teams are supporting high standards of food safety and animal welfare under the new contract.

The engagement also enabled both organisations to meet with food business operators, understand operational challenges, and explore opportunities for continued improvement in regulatory service delivery.

In addition to observing HallMark teams working effectively on the ground and engaging in open dialogue with operators, the visits reinforced the importance of ongoing collaboration between HallMark and the FSA in delivering consistent, high-quality official controls that protect consumers and safeguard animal welfare.

Patrick Steel, Managing Director, HallMark

“These visits were a great opportunity to see our teams delivering on the ground and to engage directly with food business operators. Continued collaboration with the FSA is essential to delivering high-quality official controls and maintaining trust across the supply chain.”
